State Records

State RecordsFormed in 1974 by Wayne Bickerton, Tony Waddington, and John Fruin, the State label went on to become one of the most successful independent labelsof the 70’s.

State’s first top 5 chart success was “I Can Do It”, recorded by The Rubettes and written by Wayne Bickerton and Tony Waddington. Following on from “Sugar Baby Love”, which had been No. 1 in the British and European charts, State Records enjoyed the hits penned by Bickerton/Waddington. They went on to have eight chart records with The Rubettes. In addition, the State label had chart success with Mac & Katie Kissoon, Rokotto, Delegation, Gary Benson and many others.

In the late 70’s, State Records built a state of the art recording studio in Marble Arch and went on to form successful publishing companies with “Odyssey – State Music”.

Cubit Recordings

Cubit RecordingsCubit Recordings was launched in 2008 by producers Robert de Fresnes, Chris Bucknall and PR Guru Jenny Stanley-Clarke as a direct response to the shortcomings of many of the major labels in the new digital age. With many years collective music industry experience, they were perfectly positioned to be able to offer artists from all over the world an outlet through which to distribute and exploit their product.

Cubit Records offers a bespoke service – tailored to the individual act’s needs. They see their role to empower artists to maintain control of their careers and allow them a much greater creative control of their music than ever before.

Initial success came in 2009 with the release of 'Never Gonna Give In' by solo artist Michaela Wright. The track, co written by Simon Ellis (Britney Spears, S Club 7) quickly found fans on UK radio and went on to be licensed in Spain, Portugal, Russia and South Africa.

In 2011 Cubit launched their first 'album' artist, an acoustic duo called Miss 600. Their debut single 'Twist' spent 8 weeks on the BBC Radio 2 playlist (including 5 weeks on the A list) during the summer of 2011 and achieved over 2000 plays on UK radio. Miss 600's debut album 'Buying Time' has received widespread critical acclaim and has been licensed to labels in Italy, Poland and South Africa. The album features collaborations with Reggae legend Maxi Priest, film composer Ennio Morricone and soloists Sam Beeton (RCA) and Sonna Rele (Sony BMG).

Cubit are also very active in the Dance genre and regularly release dance singles and compilations worldwide.
