When Lee Coley, Ricky Bailey and Roddy Harris got together in the summer of 1976, it was with a shared love of the "Philly Sound"; vocal groups such as The O'Jays, and The Chi-Lites.
After releasing their debut single, "Promise of Love", Delegation released "Where Is The Love", which began winging its way up the charts. Several Top of the Pops appearances followed and in July 1977, "You Been Doing Me Wrong" too found its way into the top 40.
Their album, also titled "Promise of Love", arrived in November. Recorded between the Lansdowne, Marquee and Roundhouse Studios, it showcased not only the fine vocal talents of the trio but also the writing team of Ken Gold and Micky Deene.
Changes occurred in '78 when Coley left and was replaced by Bruce Dunbar. Things slowed a little in England, but their 1979 release 'Oh Honey' soared to no.5 in the US R&B chart.
The legacy of this period lives on through Rap and Hip-Hop where artists such as Puff Daddy and Ice Cube have sampled their music.
